How do I choose the best freestanding vanity unit for my bathroom?

Your choice of vanity unit depends on the space you have and the style of your wider interior.

Let’s start with size and storage, as practicality is more important than anything. Before you pick your desired size, measure your bathroom or ensuite to determine how much space you have.

Our smallest freestanding vanity units are 600mm, a size best suited to ensuites and cloakrooms. The 800mm to 1000mm range is most practical for most bathrooms.

At the higher end, we offer units up to 1600mm. The 1000mm to 1200mm units give you extra worktop and cabinet space with a single basin. The 1400mm units come with either single or double basins, depending on the product, while the 1600mm units come with double basins. This configuration is perfect for a master or grand family bathroom shared by a couple who want to use different sinks at the same time.

As for style, there are two key areas to consider: tap colour and unit colour, which go hand in hand.

Warm woods pair well with warm and neutral metals. For example, walnut and dark oak look best with brushed brass, gold, bronze, and black taps. These colours complement and enhance the unit’s rich undertones. Conversely, matt stone, white, and cream work better with chrome and brushed steel taps. These colour combinations give your space a lighter, more modern vibe.

Ideally, your brassware should look the same throughout your bathroom or ensuite. The colour you pick for your freestanding vanity unit should match what’s in your bath or shower for a uniform look and feel.

Is a Nôsa freestanding vanity unit right for me?

If you want to maximise available storage space and make your vanity unit the centrepiece of your bathroom or ensuite, then our freestanding vanities are your perfect match.

We have a huge variety of styles for you to choose from, and your unit can be matched with existing bathroom furniture easily due to their timeless style that will never go out of fashion.

If you’re looking for a vanity unit that stands the test of time and is built to last for years, Nôsa’s freestanding vanity units are a the perfect choice.

Should I buy a freestanding vanity unit or a wall-hung vanity unit?

A freestanding vanity unit offers timeless style and is the best option if you don’t  have the wall strength for mounting a wall-hung vanity unit. It’s easier to install and its pipework is concealed within the cabinet, giving your bathroom or ensuite a clean, pipe-free look.

Wall-hung vanity units create an illusion of space, making the most compact bathrooms feel much larger. Their floating appearance is best suited to minimalist or spa-style bathrooms.

What size of freestanding vanity unit should I buy?

This depends on the space you currently have and the type of space in which you’re planning to integrate your unit.

We offer compact 600mm units for cloakrooms and en-suites, all the way up to 1400mm and 1600mm vanity units for large family bathrooms.

Still not sure what size is right for your space? Use masking tape on the floor to outline the exact width and depth of the unit you want.

Stand in front of the taped area, and measure floor-to-wall height, wall-to-wall distance, and walkway space. You should have at least 600mm to 700mm of clear walkway space so that you can navigate your bathroom without any obstructions.

For a couples’ bathroom, should I buy two separate vanity units?

We generally advise against buying two separate vanity units. Stylistically, they look disjointed compared to a double vanity unit containing two individual basins. With a double basin vanity, your unit requires only one waste pipe as opposed to two separate ones, which saves on the inconvenience of additional plumbing. This can also be paired with a large mirror for a complete, seamless, seamless look.

How do I make my freestanding vanity unit the centrepiece of my bathroom?

You can accentuate your unit via a single large mirror that covers the width of the vanity. This mirror can be illuminated or paired with two wall sconces on either side to highlight your vanity unit as the centrepiece.

Brassware should be the same colour as the rest of the bathroom. Seamlessly matching any bath taps, showers and accessories such as towel rails and toilet roll holders. Further pairing with a colour-matching bathroom radiator helps ensure the focal point of your bathroom is focused on your freestanding vanity unit.Seamlessly matching any bath taps, showers and accessories such as towel rails and toilet roll holders. How do I maintain a freestanding vanity unit?

You should clean your freestanding vanity unit after standard use. Simply rinse the surface with water and then dry it gently with a soft cloth. For deeper cleans, avoid abrasive cloths or sponges and harsh chemicals, as they can damage the surface.
